This position is located in the Surgery / Operating Room (OR) department of Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH).

The Surgery/OR department provides nursing services for all surgical procedures; provides a sterile and sanitary environment for the performance of surgical operations; provides proper control so that preoperative requisites of the hospital and Medical Staff are properly carried out; and ensures that necessary equipment, instruments, and drugs are available to the surgeon.
As a full-time Nursing Support Coordinator, the Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) IV (OR Support Coordinator) serves as an assistant to the RPN V (Unit Nurse Manager) in providing nursing care and treatment services for the Surgery/OR department and supervises and participates in managing the daily operations in the event that the Unit Nurse Manager is out of office; assists with supervisory responsibilities over all shifts and may require work on weekends, holidays, stand-by and call-backs dependent on operational needs; and performs other related duties as required.
The RPN IV reports directly to the RPN V, position no.
59602 or its designee.

Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently.
In addition, qualifying work experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Graduation from a nursing program with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
Licensure:
Valid, active license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawai'i.
Applicants must submit evidence of current Hawai'i RN licensure (a copy of a valid license) at the time of appointment.
Certifications:
Applicants are required to provide current certifications issued by the American Heart Association in the following:
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (adult, child, and infant); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
General
Experience:
One and one-half years (1-1/2) of professional nursing experience, of which one year must have been comparable to Registered Professional Nurse III, where the applicant independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital, or institution; Experience in Operating Room/Recovery Room services, and/or certification in specialty preferred.
Supervisory
Experience:
Applicants must possess professional supervisory nursing experience which included:
(1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees.
Supervisory Aptitude:
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through the successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisor responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of:
nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of JCAHO requirements, and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts.
Ability to:
plan and schedule the work of others and utilize the principles and practices of supervision.
The ability to apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient's condition; and take appropriate action.
The position should be able to initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing and other departments and agencies affiliated with the hospital.
